A Travel Packing Guide Checklist For Bloggers

InterContinental-14.jpg

Here's a few questions I always ask myself while preparing for an upcoming trip - what should I pack? How much do I need to pack? Am I packing too much?

And truth be told, I always overpack...and my friends make fun of me so much for doing so. They always exclaim phrases such as, "Did you pack for an entire month?!" or "What the hell did you bring?!" but hey, at least yo gurl comes prepared, LOL!

Because I overpack or bring essential after essential with me, I thought it'd be useful to write a blog post revolved around a to-pack guide for bloggers, since bloggers specifically bring items or equipment that the average person doesn't bring on vacation. So without further ado, let's get to the packing guide!

InterContinental-8.jpg

Toiletries

- Electric toothbrush or toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Floss
- Travel-sized Listerine

Personal Care/Hygiene

- Tampons/pads/pantyliners
- Deodorant
- Razor + Shaving Cream (sometimes, hotels provide complimentary razors)
           - Pro Tip: I like to bring disposable razors on trips that you can find distributed at gyms or spas, or you can purchase one for a cheap price.
- Nail Clipper
- Bandages (hotels provide these)

Skincare

Although this one may not seem like an ESSENTIAL to a bunch of people, having access to trustworthy and quality skincare products will make a huge difference in the texture and elasticity of your skin throughout and after your trip. If you don't properly take care of your skin during a trip, you will surely see the negative after-effects as soon as you arrive home - especially there is a huge climate change/difference at your travel destination compared to your hometown.

With skincare, it's best to carry convenient travel-sized products with you so that you don't take up so much space in your luggage! I've linked a few travel-sized products that I love bringing with me throughout my media trips.

- Vitamin C
              - Current Fave: Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate
- Face Sunblock
              - Current Fave: CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion
- Body Sunscreen
              - Current Fave: COOLA Organic Suncare
- Body Moisturizer
- Makeup Removing Wipes
              - Current Fave: Bioderma Sensible H2O Biodegradable Facial Cleansing & Makeup Remover Wipes
- Precleanse + Sponge
              - Current Fave: Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm-To-Oil Emulsifyer
- Cleanser
              - Current Fave: Dermalogica Gentle Foaming Cleanser
- Toner
- Serum
               - Current Fave: Instytutum Anti-Wrinkle Brightening Serum
- Face Moisturizer
               - Current Fave: Dermalogica Calm Water Gel
- Eye Cream/Moisturizer
               - Current Faves: Pixi Beauty 24K Eye Elixir, Dermalogica Stress Positive Eye Lift, BABOR Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream
- Lip Balm
               - Current Fave: Algenist GENIUS Liquid Collagen Lip
- Facial Sheet Masks
- Eye Masks
               - Current Fave: DHC Skincare Revitalizing Moisture Strips

Individual Pouches (For Storage Purposes)

Until I watched Bellywellyjelly's YouTube packing videos, I was always that messy packer that just threw shit everywhere in my luggage. Nowadays, I realize the importance of dividing essentials into various pouches for easy access. Additionally, I used to (and sometimes still do) pack my essentials in a ghetto way through reusable Ziploc bags, but somewhere along the way, I realized that having unique and different pouches can really help you differentiate what essentials you packed in which pouch. A pouch can range from a bag with a zipper, button, or clasp - as long as you can close it and it offers ample storage space, it works!

I use individual pouches to store these various essentials:
- Skincare
- Makeup + Makeup Brushes
- Blogging Necessities (USB Memory Card Reader, multiple USB port, external hard drive)

What's In My Bag/Backpack

- Wallet + ID + credit cards + cash
- External portable charger
- Laptop + charger
- 1-2 pens
- Eyeliner
- Lipstick
- Lip balm
- Floss
- One pair of sunglasses
- Reusable water bottle
- Planner to organize collaboration deadlines
               - Current Fave: Erin Condren's LifePlanner (Vertical Layout)
- Earbuds or headphones
- Neck pillow (recommended for long flights)

Blogging Necessities/Equipment

When Sharon and I shot these photos during our San Francisco trip at the luxurious InterContinental San Francisco, you already know that we brought all of our blogging equipment to create content! One of the most important things is to have your DSLR on you at all times to capture the perfect moments in time, such as when you scout out the ideal photoshoot location! The staircase and wide windows of InterContinental San Francisco naturally let in enough light to make this an aesthetic place to shoot - plus, there was enough space where we got to play with the angles a bit! I already miss staying at the InterContinental San Francisco and I loved how we had our own individual beds to watch Friends from while editing the day's photos on our laptops. Additionally, our hotel suite was very aesthetic and spacious to shoot additional content, and you can find other photos that we've posted from this hotel on our Instagram pages!

For those who don't like or are uncomfortable with carrying around a DSLR openly in public (plus it's not that safe to do so in sketchy areas), it's best to always bring a spacious and comfortable bag with you so you can put your DSLR away from the public eye.

- DSLR + memory cards + spare battery + charger + extra lenses
- Vlogging Camera + memory cards + spare battery + charger
- Google Pixel 2 (to take quick scenery/tourist photos)
- Laptop + charger
- External hard drive
- Multiple USB ports
- USB Memory Card Reader
- Planner to organize collaboration deadlines

Makeup

Obviously, everybody has a different way of doing their makeup and to be honest, you don't NEED to bring every makeup essential out there - especially when you're a light traveler. Personally, these are the makeup essentials that I pack all in ONE pouch, but to each their own. You can bring as much as I do (or even more!), or you can limit your makeup stash to just simply eyeliner and mascara!

- Makeup Brushes
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Bronzer
- Blush
- Eyeliner
- Highlighter
- Transluscent Powder
- Mascara
- 1-2 Makeup Palettes
- Eyelash glue
- 1-5 pairs of falsies
           - Pro Tip: I like to bring one pair of mink lashes so that they last me all-trip long! If you want to be safe, bring two pairs just in case you lose the first pair or they get damaged!
- Lipstick or lipgloss
- Makeup Setting Spray

Fashion Pieces

- 1-5 dresses + rompers
- 1-2 pairs of jeans
- 1-2 tops
- Five Panties
- Five pairs of socks
- One pair of athletic shoes
- Three pairs of workout outfits (hey, at least you brought them!)
- 2-5 pairs of sandals, wedges, booties, boots, and/or heels
- 3-5 pairs of sunglasses
- 1-3 purses, bags, and/or totes
- 1-3 pieces of jewelry (something that is easy to wear or pack!)

Luggage

- One medium or huge luggage or duffel bag
          - Pro Tip: Every time I go on a trip, I cannot live without the 360 mobility feature. Essentially, a luggage with 360 mobility is able to be easily transported and getting it from airport to hotel feels practically effortless. DELSEY USA is a GREAT store to purchase luggage pieces from - I currently use the 25" Bastille Lite Expandable Luggage in Black and 29" Titanium Expandable Spinner Luggage from DELSEY USA.
- One Purse
- One Backpack

Father's Day 2018 Gift Guide

ChrisellexJOA-6.jpg

More often than not, Father's Day almost always lands on my birthday (June 17th), or at least extremely close to this special day. Although my family is not big on gift-giving and we prefer to show our love and appreciation through intimate family dinners and quality time together, it doesn't mean that all families are like that! Every family is different, and I totally respect that! In fact, I know plenty of you celebrate Father's Day and whenever a special holiday arrives, we always get into this panic mode where we freak out when we do not know what to get a beloved individual. Worry not, because that's why gift guides are created on my blog ;) In today's blog post, I share with you a few amazing gift ideas that will make your Father smile this time of year.

ChrisellexJOA-4.jpg
ChrisellexJOA-8.jpg

As of recently, Airpods are one of the coolest Apple gadgets to exist on this planet. If you don't know what Airpods are, they are essentially wireless, bluetooth-activated earbuds made by Apple. These two "pods" come in a compact case that also serves as a charging station, so you're technically charging your Airpods whenever they aren't in use.

Honestly, these babies are convenient AF to own. Although I don't own a pair myself, I definitely want to someday and I have played with a pair enough to know that I want one for my very own. Not only do I love the compact and convenient size of Airpods for easy storage and mobility, but I love how it's so user-friendly and easy-to-use as well. Also, a pair of Airpods definitely beats my handy-dandy Bose noise-cancelling headphones regarding the fact that they do not easily slip or fall out of your ears during an intense session of abs or crunches. Additionally, if a gym friend forgets to bring his/her earbuds or headphones for a day, you can still share one Airpod with that buddy and have one for yourself so that you can both listen to music! It's like splitting a pair of earbuds - without the wire! Compared to my more expensive pair of headphones, the pricepoint of Airpods are set at a fairly reasonable price to spend on an important family member.

If your Father gardens, works out, walks the dogs, or just loves listening to music, you can give him no better gift than the gift of beautiful music through a pair of trustworthy Airpods.

Purchase a pair of Airpods here.

Massage Vouchers

All of our Dads work hard, and any hard-working Dad definitely deserves a massage every once in a while!

In previous blog posts, I have always shared my secrets to getting a massage that is worth every bang for your buck and the secret is purchasing affordable massage vouchers on GROUPON! To do this, you simply search what city/location you want to visit for your massage (or in this case, your Dad) and the search engine will provide multiple suggestions on various businesses you can purchase a discounted massage voucher from. Honestly, I don't trust GroupOn reviews, so I look to see which location is the most convenient to visit before I head on Yelp to look into more trusthworthy 4-star or 5-star reviews. Also, GroupOn typically only applies to first-time customers, so make sure that your Dad hasn't visited the location before for the GroupOn voucher to be applied!

Honestly, whenever I purchase a GroupOn voucher for massages, I always save anywhere from $25-100 off the original price! I'm sold.

I talked about this awesome company once before in a previous Valentine's Day gift guide here, but I wanted to bring it up again because ManCrates does not have enough recognition for its innovative and diverse amount of crates! Essentially, ManCrates designs a "crate" full of themed products for the father figure in your life. Think of it like a themed subscription box, without the annoying or unnecessary subscription! Instead of picking out miscellaneous items that you think your Father will like and putting it together in the form of a gift basket, ManCrates does all of the work for you! From the genres of grilling to eating to drinking to to sports to project kits, ManCrates has it all. See, they even have a tab called "Father's Day"! That's when you know they're prepared for the holidays ;)

Google Home or Google Home Mini

If your dad is electronic-savvy or into the latest technology, he will definitely love owning a Google Home or Google Home Mini! As a matter of fact, I am the proud owner of a Google Home Mini that is shaped like a coral donut speaker and I absolutely LOVE it! With my Google Home Mini, I use it daily as my alarm clock and also various times when I feel like blasting a random playlist of music in my room. You can literally say, "Hey Google, play Michael Buble" and a popular hit by Buble will start playing within the next few seconds. Additionally, you can ask your Google Home various questions such as, "What time is it?", "When is Father's Day?", "How long do eggs last in the fridge?", and other questions where you need a quick answer without browsing the Internet. This device is great to place in the bedroom, bathroom, living room, family room, garage, outdoor patio, or anywhere you need to have an electronic buddy that provides all of these services and more.

Purchase a Google Home here.

Personally, I don't use the Kindle because I prefer old-fashioned paperback or hardcover books, but I know plenty of Moms and Dads who have hopped on the Kindle train as of lately. Not only is it convenient to carry around with you, but I just don't envision parents these days lugging around books when they can easily access multiple sources of literature through one electronic device. Especially because men don't often carry a backpack, bag, or purse with them everywhere, I can't imagine a man wanting to carry a thick book with him everywhere that can easily get wrinkled when he can carry around a lighter, sleekly designed electronic instead.

I believe my Dad owns a tablet or Kindle of his own, which is all the more reason to trust me and get a Kindle for your Father as well! ;)

Purchase a Kindle here.

Giftcards

If your gift-giving creativity has hit a major slump, I have been there too and I feel ya! Don't become frustrated, concerned, or down if you've tried really hard to think of a creative gift - sometimes, some people are just difficult to shop for! Say, if your Dad is extremely picky or he already owns everything he could ever want, sometimes a giftcard is the best route you can go in some cases. This way, your Dad will be happy that he can treat himself to something else he may want or need and KNOW that he's going to like it too! And since the giftcard is from you, what he buys is technically from you too ;)

Personally, I've gifted my Dad Home Depot giftcards in the past because he LOVES gardening, and he seemed like a happy camper, LOL. Write down 3-5 hobbies that your Dad has, and from there, find the most relevant businesses that you can purchase a giftcard from that relates to these hobbies.

This particular gift is for those MARRIED TO and HAVE CHILDREN with their male partner - I introduce to you, DateBox. DateBox serves as the ideal "dating" gift when you're trying to spice things up with your lover or fi the quality of your time together has been feeling a little repetitive/dry/comfortable. Say, if you both are super busy with the kids and find that you never have free time, try hiring a babysitter sometime before or after Father's Day (unless you're free on the actual holiday!) to spend a little time with your man and DateBox. In fact, DateBox can either set you up on a fun date around your city or you can receive a physical DateBox in the mail as an in-home activity. In-home DateBox activities include a sushi-making kit, a card game over alcohol, an espresso-making kit, and more. Although this is technically a subscription box, you can cancel anytime if you just want it to be a one-time memorable gift. Just because your significant other is a Father doesn't mean you, as his wife, can't celebrate it with him too!

Purchase your DateBox here.

Where To Take Bae On Your Next Date In OC/LA

JoshuaTreeRoadmap-6.jpg

One of the greatest satisfactions I get from being a freelance lifestyle blogger is being able to listen to requested topics or feedback from my followers and fulfilling these requests to the best of my ability. By being able to engage and interact with my audience on the daily, I always strive to write helpful articles that give back to the community because nothing makes me happier than putting a smile on your face. As cheesy as that sounds, it's nothing but the truth! Thus, from the request of one particular follower who personally messaged me asking about various date spots to go to with her significant other and majority's vote from a recent Instagram poll that I initiated, this post is for ALL of you who are looking for recommendations on popular date spots or ideas in the Orange County and/or Los Angeles area! Also, I made sure to categorize each date based on the type of couple you are, whether that revolves around traveling, adventure, photography, or food. So without further ado, are you ready to surprise bae with one of the most fun and memorable dates of his/her life?! If so, let's get planning!

Top Three Tips For Better Time Management

Snakeskin-1.jpg

When I observe the actions of the people around me, one thought doesn't fail to cross my mind - why are we in such a rush to get through our day? And why are we in such a rush to live?

Why do we jam-pack our day with back-to-back errands, if it adds stress to our lives and doesn't make us happy inside? Why are some of us programmed to sporadically squeeze in as many tasks in our day as humanly possible - to be productive? Can you really call yourself productive when your stress levels go off the charts?

In my opinion, there's a fine line between maximizing productivity and creating an unorganized chaos for yourself. And I'm here to differentiate the two.

Photography By:
Sharon Litz (@sharonlitz) from www.sharinaone.com

Snakeskin-2.jpg

Maybe I just enjoy chillin' like a villian too much and appreciate living in the moment, but one pet peeve that really grinds my gears (Peter Griffin reference anyone? LOL) is when others enforce their unhealthy fast-paced living habits on me. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for productivity, but only when one is capable of crossing off their to-do's off in real time and not under an unreasonably timed window.

What doesn't make sense to me is when people massively cram back-to-back errands in an inconvenient manner IF they have additional time to space these errands out throughout their day. And worse - if they complain or stress over the fact that they don't have enough time to complete their daily tasks when they obviously do?

Snakeskin-3.jpg

TIP #1:
If you find extra time in your day-to-day schedule, space out your errands accordingly so that you avoid burning yourself out and causing extra stress on your mind and body.

Hypothetically, let's say I have an entire Saturday free to take care of my work and complete my errands. I've written one hypothetical individual's Saturday schedule in two types of formats - an inconvenient and stressful schedule versus a convenient and laidback schedule. At the end of the day, this individual gets the same tasks done, but just prioritizes his/her time better and feels less stressed. Let's compare the two and analyze why the convenient schedule is a healthier day-to-day lifestyle.

*Note: 30 minute increments refer to driving or transitioning to the next task*

HYPOTHETICAL SATURDAY: (INCONVENIENT & STRESSFUL SCHEDULE)
Sleep 11:00PM - 8:00AM
Breakfast 8:30 - 9:00AM
Gym 9:30AM - 11:00AM
Shower 11:30AM - 12:00PM
Lunch 12:00PM - 12:30PM
Grocery Shopping 1:00PM - 2:30PM
Work/Errands 2:30PM - 6:30PM
Dinner 7:00PM - 7:30PM
LEISURE TIME (TV, magazine read, etc.): 7:30PM - 10:30PM

RESULT OF AN INCONVENIENT SCHEDULE:
- 30 minute meal times (no time to actually enjoy your food)
- Always rushing to the next location/task (no breathing time)
- Stressed out for a majority day trying to meet the next task on time
- Burnt out from not taking any breaks or pauses throughout the day

Meanwhile...

HYPOTHETICAL SATURDAY: (CONVENIENT)
Sleep 11:00PM - 8:00AM
Breakfast 8:30AM - 9:30AM
Gym 10:00AM - 11:30AM
Shower: 12:00PM - 12:30PM
Lunch 12:30PM - 1:30PM
Grocery Shopping 2:00PM - 3:30PM
Work/Errands 4:00PM - 6:00PM
Dinner 6:30PM - 7:30PM
Work/Errands Pt. 2 7:30PM - 9:30 PM
LEISURE TIME (TV, magazine read, etc.) 9:30 PM - 10:30 PM

RESULT OF A CONVENIENT SCHEDULE:
- 1 hour meal times (Can actually live in the moment & enjoy the flavors of his/her meal)
- No panic attacks or unnecessary stress from rushing to the next task/location
- Added dinner as a break between work/errands so he/she avoids burning out throughout the day
- Less leisure time available
- Overall, he/she will encounter less stress and feel much happier when a productive day runs smoothly

At the end of the day, I feel happiest when I cross off my daily to-do list at my own pace. I personally don't mind if I take longer to do each task, just as long as my deadlines are met and the quality of my work is not compromised. Feeling stressed over a routine schedule that you've set up for yourself or rushing through each task does not sound like a productive lifestyle in my opinion. And remember, you have the power to CHANGE how you live your life, so why not do shape your day around a schedule that works best for you? By not rushing through tasks or speeding to the next location, I personally feel in more control of my day, which leads to an improved mood and work ethic. I personally find that constant movement and work makes life feel less enjoyable. Besides, it's good to have a balance between busy and relaxation.

Obviously, this tip doesn't apply to every single individual, as some people juggle multiple jobs or are parents. However, I've included this list for the average person BECAUSE there are so many of us out there who rush through our daily lives, thinking we don't have enough time when in reality, it's all about proper time management and how we effectively utilize every minute of our day.

TIP #2:
Add breaks in between LONG tasks or after completing multiple tasks.

Breaks act as breathing time so that I avoid burnout and that I can complete my tasks as efficiently and stress-free as possible. Also, breaks do not count as checking your phone for Instagram notifications. A break includes taking a quick nap, meditation, going on a short neighborhood walk, or anything that puts your mind at ease. Also, I've learned that a change in scenery really helps those creative juices move - hence why I always go to coffee shops to work, heh.

TIP #3:
Use a planner (whether on your mobile device or a physical notebook) to jot down your daily list of to-do's and errands. An organized schedule leads to focused goals and a healthy mindset.

Planners have been my lifesaver since I started my blogging career three years ago. By juggling an endless amount of deadlines (guys, blogging is like constantly turning in schoolwork, but in overdrive mode. Not kidding.) and scheduling photoshoots 1-3 times per week, there's no way this goldfish memory of mine can remember every project that's due and every location and time that I have to meet somebody in my industry.

If you want to save a bit of money, I would recommend using your free "Calendar" and "Notes" mobile apps. However, if you're more of an old school planner typa gal like me, I would recommend investing in a planner that gets the job done. For those of you know already know me well, Passion Planner is my absolute favorite planner that I've been using for years because of its goal-chasing mission! Please check out their website here and see their planners for yourself - Passion Planner has literally changed my life for the better.

Stay tuned for a list of my favorite planners - coming to a blog post on Missmisschelle later this week ;)

I hope that these three tips at least helped one of you guys out, whether it means reassessing your current schedule or learning how to apply better time management to your day! To be honest, I've struggled with poor time management in the beginning when I was getting situated with the blogging lifestyle, but this career has definitely shown me how to balance my work and social life for the better. With that, I am forever appreciative that I can do what I love for a living all the while inspiring you guys to chase your dreams! Also, I want to thank one of my best friends, Wendy, for helping me get my life back on track with her coaching sessions - please read about my coaching experience here and how integrating a weekly coaching call into my schedule has improved my financial, social, fitness, and work life for the better.

Please let me know in the comments section below which tip resonated with you most, or if there's a tip you'd like to add to my list :) Until then, I'll talk to y'all soon!

Much Love,
