Glen Ivy Hot Springs: Welcome To The Secret Garden

GlenIvyHotSpringsIGTakeover-3.jpg

Glen Ivy Hot Springs, we meet again. Just a bit over a month ago, I visited the relaxing Glen Ivy for Marisa's bachelorette party (which you can read all about here), but decided to visit once more because c'mon - who doesn't wanna make another trip to the spa?! With this third (and not final) visit, I've partnered up with Glen Ivy to host an INSTAGRAM TAKEOVER on their account and had so much fun showing their audience (and any of my audience that trickled over to their page, LOL) the full experience of what Glen Ivy has to offer! Additionally, I was in for a surprise myself as well, as this was my first time being able to walk through their new Secret Garden. The Secret Garden is a hidden little oasis tucked in away from the crowd, away from the noise, and is SO secret that it's not even on the map! Where is it located exactly? Well, that's a secret you'll have to find out for yourself once you get there ;)

If you keep on reading, I do have a special gift for y'all in the form of a GLEN IVY HOT SPRINGS GIVEAWAY so don't leave just yet - this party is just getting started ;)

When Glen Ivy cannot already get any more aesthetic, it DOES with their Secret Garden! If you want to know what the mind of a typical blogger looks like, just think of an endless Instagram feed scrolling down, brainstorming all of the possible places that would make for a potential photoshoot location. Yeah...not gonna lie that I have the mind of a typical blogger as well, BUT I always make sure to balance work and play as best as possible. Thus, I wanted to get a majority (or all) of my "photoshoot outfit sets" done at the beginning of the day so that I could relax for the remainder of my visit.

My plus one and I walked to our cozy little cabana named "Secret Garden #5" and let me just tell you, the staff is REALLY attentive here! Every time we came back (and yes, I mean EVERY time), a Glen Ivy staff member showed up and asked if we needed anything within a minute of us arriving back at the cabana. Is this what #cabanalifegoals feels like? If for some reason you do not see a staff member on site, they have a button in the cabana that you can click to request immediate assistance. Niiiiice.

So of course, always hungry Michelle likes to start off the day with food. And lots of it. Because Glen Ivy radiates vacay and getaway vibes, Michelle did not hold back when ordering food. Not only did she order a Grain Bowl AND Chicken Nachos, but she also ordered TWO Berry Delicious Smoothies! And not a single regret has been made that day. Honestly, I am addicted to their Chicken Nachos (it's nacho ordinary nachos) and a few Glen Ivy followers can say the same if you look at my Instagram Takeover post here. The Berry Delicious Smoothie is sweet and refreshing, and I wish my Vitamix at home could whip up something as delicious as this Glen Ivy drink. One amazing feature about reserving a Glen Ivy cabana for the day is the fact that the staff will bring you food and drinks from Ivy Kitchen, The Chill Zone, or Lounge 1860 so you don't have to wait in line for your order! I love how we were able to dig into our tablespread of entrees in the privacy of our own little cabana.

After experiencing a lightweight food coma, it was time for our 50-minute Aromatherapy Elements Massage (maybe I shouldn't have eaten so much beforehand, gulp). I requested the same massage therapist that I had last time named Robin, because her massage techniques are very particular and precise (in the good kind of way). Not only does Robin focus on every single body part that needs work, but she also works out the kinks in areas that I didn't realize needed attention! Sadly, Robin informed me that I should worry that my neck is very stiff, but she also gave me pointers on which exercises to do to make it less stiff. If I were to commit to a few simple stretching exercises (once in the morning and once at night), Robin says that I would experience a lot less knots, kinks, and pain in my neck area. Thanks Robin, I oughta try that!

Once we came out of our massages, we decided to chill even harder than we did at the massage. There's a corgi sticker on Facebook that explains this mood perfectly, LOL - I hope some of you know what I'm talking about so I don't sound crazy! There was a point in time where we walked on to the wooden patio of the Secret Garden and started rocking comfortably on their rocking chairs - something about rocking chairs just really calm me, LOL. Honestly, the Secret Garden is a great place to chill at Glen Ivy if you want to unplug from the world and do something restful like reading a book or getting some shut-eye. As soon as we heard music playing across the hot springs, we knew that it was Twilight Hour - this is a specific time when Glen Ivy brings out a live DJ or musician to play music to bring out the party in what was earlier a very tranquil hot springs. I'm all for it, since the live DJ was playing pretty dope music that I wanted to Shazam as I walked back to my car.

To end this blog post on a good note, a little birdie from Glen Ivy Hot Springs told me that I'll be giving away TWO complimentary mid-week passes (covers entry fee & available for redemption Monday - Thursday) AND TWO complimentary lunch passes)! If my Instagram post has brought you here, if you just regularly visit my blog, or if you happen to be here for the first time, I've included the simple rules below so that you can enter this giveaway! :)

My Eventful Memorial Day Weekend

MarisasBacheloretteParty-3.jpg

You know that you're officially a grandma in life when you cannot hang at your own Memorial Day backyard party longer than the older peeps, hah. I'm typing this blog post as "Turn Down For What" is blasting from the outdoor speakers of our newly renovated backyard pool and patio, yet for some reason I rather edit photos for Instagram and write a blog post than chug down alcohol bottles. Meh, I guess I'm finally growing up, LOL. But since I have a bit of free time before the work week starts, I thought I'd share with you guys my eventful Memorial Day recap in a diary format because this was DEFINITELY a relaxing and productive weekend that I've been needing for a long while. Read below if you want to learn more about my eventful weekend featuring Marisa's bachelorette party at Glen Ivy Hot Springs and a fun backyard party featuring MilkAndEggs ingredients!

Friday, May 25th

Honestly, all I can remember from this day was probably ending work around 5/6PM, hitting the gym at night to work on "leg day", then running 2-3 miles around the neighborhood at night. Let's just say my legs felt like jello the next day, just in time for Marisa's bachelorette party. Awesomeeeee.

MarisasBacheloretteParty-4.jpg

Saturday, May 26th

Finally, the day we've all been waiting for - it was BACHELORETTE PARTY TIME! ;) For Marisa's bachelorette party, we headed to Glen Ivy Hot Springs for an entire day of rest and relaxation. If you guys haven't tuned into my Instastories, I am in absolute awe of this hot springs location. The first time that I visited Glen Ivy Hot Springs was for a fun collaboration, and I brought Sharon with me to get 50-minute Aromatherapy Essentials massages - you can read all about that experience here.

To start the day, I arrived at Marisa's house at 7:45AM sharp and her family and I carpooled to Glen Ivy Hot Springs. Man, were we tired, but the entire experience was so worth. Marisa's mother-in-law rented a cabana for Marisa's entire bridal party (this includes me!) to relax in for the entire day, which is pretty much a private and exclusive area to dine and chill in. From our cabana, you also receive a picturesque view of the entire hot springs. If you're curious about what the cabana life is like at Glen Ivy Hot Springs, I left all of the behind-the-scenes, which includes a tour of Glen Ivy Hot Springs, in the HIGHLIGHTS REEL of my Instagram account, @missmisschelle, under "BRIDESMAID". Also, when you rent a cabana, you get to skip ALL the lines that a typical customer has to wait in - this includes checking-in at the entrance and waiting for food in an assembly line fashion. Talk about a "fast pass" type of experience!

When it came to ordering food, can I just say that their mountain of nachos is ADDICTING AF?! I could literally wipe out an entire nachos bowl, I'm not even joking. Meal-wise, I ordered a Turkey Avocado Sandwich & a Berry Smoothie...honestly, I wouldn't recommend the sandwich, but the smoothie was bomb! I wanted to order a second smoothie after devouring my first, but decided against it since I thought I should try other things on their menu. Later throughout the day, I ended up ordering a Coffee Frap from their Starbucks and a Chocolate Brownie Froyo that the employees served to us at our cabana. Seriously love the cabana life!

Regarding my Glen Ivy Hot Springs experience, Marisa's bridal party first visited Club Mud, which is popularly known for exfoliating your skin. First, you apply wet mud to your body, then sit in a heated room to allow the mud to dry before washing the mud off in their outdoor showers. Although it's strongly advised to wear a dark-colored swimsuit in the accidental case that mud won't wash off your swimsuit later on, oblivious Michelle ended up wearing white - goddammit Michelle

After Club Mud, we went to The Grotto - now THIS part, I loved. Essentially, an employee uses a "paintbrush" to apply a warm mixture of aloe vera, coconut oil, eucalyptus, and lavender masque to your entire body. Also, this mixture can instantly wash off your swimsuit so phew, I was saved there. Not only does it smell amazing, but the mixture feels SO relaxing when applied to your body. Similarly to Club Mud, we sat in a heated room to allow the mixture to dry on our skin before washing it off. The Grotto is meant to soften and hydrate your skin in a very therapeutic and interactive way. Lastly, we ended our Grotto experience by sipping on hot Tazo tea (we all loved the flavor orange!) while chatting the day away.

As soon as we left The Grotto, we all went separate ways temporarily to head to our appointments. I received the Aromatherapy Essentials massage from a massage therapist named Robin, and she was absolutely AMAZING. I would definitely book with her again the next time I visit Glen Ivy Hot Springs!

After receiving our massages and body scrubs, we all visited various pools around the resort and then relaxed back at our cabanas over coffee drinks and froyo. What a way to end the day! I hope Marisa had a great time at her bachelorette party because I certainly did, and I cannot wait for her big day coming up soon in less than a month! ;)

Sunday, May 27th

To make my Sunday morning productive, I went to the gym at 9:00AM and got "arms/chest" day over and done with for one hour, followed by cardio on the treadmill for another 30 minutes.

With my Dori-like goldfish memory, I can't seem to remember too much of what happened after the gym. Honestly, I think I just took it easy, but I made a HUGE effort to stay away from electronics since I do a bunch of social media work on the weekdays.

One thing that I DO want to start enforcing is putting away my phone anytime between the hours of 8-10PM and afterwards. Not only has a friend told me, but I noticed that I sleep like a baby much easier when I don't stare at the screen too close to bedtime. Also, I started reading a book called "Sleep Smarter" by Shawn Stevenson, recommended by a close friend and I absolutely enjoy it so far! Nowadays, I'm going to do my best to read every day for 30 minutes before I go to sleep - please feel free to keep me accountable ;) And truth be told, I woke up today feeling SUPER energized and refreshed, all thanks to putting away my phone earlier than usual. Lastly, if you have any book recommendations, please send them my way as well!

Monday, May 28th

Since this morning, I whipped up a BUNCH of recipes using my favorite MilkAndEggs ingredients - this includes Shrimp Ceviche and Shrimp Skewers. If you're looking for the bombest homemade Shrimp Ceviche recipe, read my previous recipe blog post here.

Just a quick reminder for those who don't know what MilkAndEggs is, it is an amazing grocery delivery service located in OC/LA that I've been using for several months now. Honestly, I have NO complaints about their and always rave about their business to my family and friends. MilkAndEggs literally takes the work and time away from grocery shopping by delivering quality and fresh ingredients to your doorstep whenever you want it!

Essentially, my family and I had an intimate Memorial Day backyard party with homemade entrees prepared from MilkAndEggs ingredients to celebrate our newly renovated backyard. Honestly, our pool gives me "mini Disneyland" vibes, as the design looks very similar to the pool located near the hotel in Downtown Disney. In our backyard pool, we included a handmade rock slide (literally, the rocks were made of cement and sanded down to look like real rocks!) and added salt water to our pool to give it that beautiful and natural blue water effect that you can only find in Hawaii. And of course, what's a pool party without awesome FLOATIES? ;) Also, I'm absolutely loving our backyard setup because now I have a sweet location to shoot more product & food shots from the comfort of my home, heh.

Discount Code:
Use "MISSMICHELLE" for $20 off your online MilkAndEggs purchase of $40 or more.

That's 50% off of your next groceries spree!

I hope you guys had a wonderful and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend as well! What were you up to, or what was your favorite part about the weekend? Let me know in the comments below - let's chat! ;)

My Four Favorite Spas You Must Visit In OC/LA

BandOfGypsies-1.jpg

Ever since I started incorporating strength training into my exercise routine and added event planning to my work list of to-do's, I've found myself visiting my local spa more often to destress my body and mind. Because of our fast-paced society, the majority of us focus heavily on our current workload (and future deadlines) that we have to tackle through that we sometimes forget to focus on something that is just as important - our health. Whenever I visit my local spa, I make it an effort to temporarily forget about work (work's not going anywhere!) and to indulge in some good ol' rest and relaxation, whether it be in the form of a facial or massage. If you're looking for a quick getaway from the everyday stresses of life, you should definitely consider visiting one (or all!) of the spas that I share with you guys below.

Spa Tip: If you are looking for an affordable massage or facial, check GroupOn for the best prices. Read through reviews on both GroupOn AND Yelp so that you know you're getting the most bang for your buck!

Burke Williams Day Spa

Burke Williams Day Spa will always be one of my favorite go-to spas to visit. Not only does this luxurious spa offer a variety of quality services, but their amenities are seriously top-notch.

Picture a metallic bowl of neatly organized white towels infused in an icy bath of cucumber water and that you grab one to place on your eyes before you head into their popular eucalyptus scented steam room. Picture an organized shelf of shower caps, razors, shaving cream, and hairties - all available for you to use before your shower. Picture a spacious room filled with individual vanity mirrors and desks for you to straighten, curl, or style your hair to your liking before you head out for the remainder of the day. Picture a black wicker basket of bananas, apples, and oranges next to two types of fruit-infused water to choose from. These are just the amenities we're talking about.

As for the services, I list my experience of receiving the Pure Relaxation Massage (50-minute), Salt Or Sugar Glo Wetroom Treatment (25-minute), and Spa Style Facial (50-minute) in a previous blog post here. If you are looking for the nitty-gritty details, I suggest you read this blog post! If you're unsure of what to start off with as a first-time visitor to Burke Williams Day Spa, I highly recommend going for the 50-minute Pure Relaxation Massage because you can never go wrong with a massage! However, if you ask me what my favorite service is, it has to be the unique Salt Or Sugar Wetroom Treatment. Wanna know why? You have to read my previous blog post to find out ;)

GIVEAWAY: Want to win a 3-day Spa Pass (valued at $225) and Buff Exfoliant (valued at $48) from Burke Williams Day Spa? I'm gifting ONE lucky Instagram winner this awesome prize set so don't forget to enter here before I pick a winner!

Kate Somerville Clinic

Although I've only visited the Kate Somerville Clinic once, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't go again! Upon entering this clinic, you are greeted by an elegant staircase that eventually leads you to their minimalistic waiting room with the friendliest of staff to check you in. While you wait, the waiting room features an array of Kate Somerville's collection and I've been using her products since my middle school days!

At the Kate Somerville Clinic, I received a 50-minute facial by Kelly and you can read about my first-time experience here. Before Kate Somerville Clinic, I've received plenty of facials from other spas (Massage Envy, Mirako Spa, etc.), but they felt nothing like the experience I had at this specific clinic. During my facial, I felt completely in the know with every step of my facial and I absolutely loved that feeling. There's no worse feeling than not knowing what someone is putting on your face or body, am I right (Insert concerned emoji here)? Kelly was very detailed-oriented, helpful, and informative and her clear explanation made my facial process feel a whole lot more relaxing and stress-free than any other facial I've ever received.

P.S. For those Yelpers out there, be sure to check-in to The Kate Somerville Clinic on your mobile app to redeem one free travel-sized product!

Glen Ivy Hot Springs

Recently, I visited the Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona with Sharon and it was like visiting mini-Disneyland for an entire day! Like the previous two spas, I have an entire blog post recap of my Glen Ivy Hot Springs experience here.

Glen Ivy Hot Springs is not like your average spa due to the fact that this is a more outdoorsy, social, and interactive type of spa. In contrast to your tranquil spa experience, the Glen Ivy Hot Springs exudes more of a laid-back resort type of feel. Don't even get me started about the food at Ivy Kitchen because it is freakin' AMAZING and they offer a variety of healthy dishes that I am obsessed with! Additionally, this hot springs offers far more activities (massages, facials, Club Mud, mineral baths, swimming pools, drink lounge, etc.) than your average spa, so you can guess why Sharon and I spent a majority of our day here ;)

If you are looking for a girl's day out or a couple's getaway idea, Glen Ivy Hot Springs is the place to visit! Last but not least, don't forget your swimsuit because whether you want to swim in mud or water is your choice, as long as you're having fun ;)

Le Cheateau Enchante Day Spa

Le Cheateau Enchante Day Spa is a massage location in Lake Forest that I didn't share much about with you guys on social media, but it was more of a low-key appointment I wanted to make just to destress from the month's workload. But, at least I'm sharing this place with you guys now! The massage therapists are very kind and informative, and I love how they care about their customers.

After my massage, the staff pinpoints all of the target areas that they worked on and how your body developed soreness, tension, and stiffness in those respective areas. In fact, they told me that my neck was stiff because my work requires me to look down at my phone a lot, LOL (totally caught red-handed)! Not only did they teach me certain stretches to reduce body stiffness and tension, but they even suggested various items (foam roller, tennis ball, etc.) to purchase to eradicate any knots I may want to get rid of. I value a spa (and their employees) who go above-and-beyond with their customer service skills, and Le Cheateau Enchante Day Spa definitely delivered.

Additionally, I wanted to mention that even though I am a huge fan of pure relaxation massages, my experience felt a bit more like a medium pressure massage. I would recommend this spa for those who are interested in receiving more pressure during their massages (medium pressure to deep tissue), and not for those who want a relaxing massage. Nonetheless, they definitely worked out the kinks on my body and I'm glad that I feel less stiff as I'm typing this blog post out, LOL.

Tip: For first-time visitors, I purchased a Groupon voucher from Le Cheateau Enchante Day Spa here. Just search this spa name and voila, your wallet will thank you!
