Must-Have Decor Products You Need In Your Bedroom

QuarantineMich-9.jpg

As an individual who has lived with family for a good 27 years, let me tell you that I have never had the 100% freedom to create the bedroom of my dreams…until now. When you live at home (or under another person’s roof), you typically have to abide by the room’s size in addition to any furniture that came with the room (if any). Don’t get me wrong - I’m completely grateful and appreciative to have stayed with family during this time. However, as I grew older, I began to realize that I craved more freedom, or more specifically, creative freedom.

That being said, I realized that in order to have complete control, flexibility, and freedom of creating my ideal bedroom (or any other life vision or goal of mine), I finally need to be on my own. And thus, in November of 2019, Michelle the 27 year old birdie (LOL) has finally left the nest.

After moving to my first apartment (and btw, I’m moving out soon - apartment nightmare chronicles coming to a blog post near you, LOL), I eventually learned which exact furniture pieces became staple items for me to incorporate into my future home. Thus, I have created a home-decor inspired blog post for those of you who want to REVAMP your current bedroom or PLAN out your future bedroom goals! In this blog post, you can expect to find my TOP PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS when it comes to sprucing up any ordinary bedroom!

1. A Statement Mirror

Whether you opt for a full-length mirror for your #ootds or those bougie circular mirrors that you see everywhere on Instagram, just know that adding a mirror to your bedroom will add a touch of elegance and glam to any ordinary bedroom. Not only will you have a mirror to check yourself out (or is this just me? LOL jk) at any time of the day, but it definitely adds a chic factor to your room. And if you’re into taking Instagram-worthy bedroom shots, then this mirror will become your best friend, heh ;)

Personally, I love having a mirror in my room knowing that I don’t have to walk all the way to the bathroom to apply my morning or evening skincare or to take a quick glance at my makeup look or outfit throughout the day.

I’ve linked two mirrors that I currently own and love down below. If it helps, my bestie, Marisa, purchased the same full-length mirror because she loved it so much! For both my full length and circular mirrors, I decided to pick gold for a consistent timeless and classy theme, but these two mirrors come in a variety of colors so you can pick the best color that radiates with you.

2. Artificial Succulents

I never knew how much a succulent can help a room just POP with color and life! Because I lack a talented and natural green thumb and happen to kill just all real succulents (sorry guys for not being a certified plant grower), artificial succulents are all the rage in my life these days. Honestly, there are SO many places to buy artificial succulents, but my two top favorite stores that carry the perfect succulents include IKEA and Target.

If it helps, I have included all of the fake succulents that I currently own linked below so you can pick up the same ones up for yourself if any of them resonate with you. However, I definitely have to say that my absolute favorite succulent has to be the hanging one from IKEA - and it’s so cheap too! SCORE!

Additionally, if you guys are a fan of vintage fairs or flea markets, Marisa and her mother-in-law gifted me the CUTEST artificial succulents encased in a homemade knit sleeve. Definitely check these places out too if you want a UNIQUE succulent to take home : )

3. Cube Organizer

Mirror mirror, on the wall, who now, is the fairest shelf of all? (Yes, I’m talking to the mirror in Point # 1, LOL - don’t judge)

When it comes to purchasing shelves or organizers, I personally love the white cube organizers with the square-shaped “cut-outs” for you to add bins and other decor items inside. And yes, this is another item that both the bestie and I own. When you know #MishandMarish own the same piece of furniture, you know it’s worth the investment, LOL!

But first, let me introduce a running joke at my current apartment with my two best friends and I. For some odd reason, I always find the niftiest pieces of lightly used furniture at…my apartment’s dumpster (LOL). And not only that - we even named this mysterious person “Apartment Santa” every time I find another piece of treasure by the dumpsters. In fact, Apartment Santa even dropped off a white desk, teal chair, and translucent IKEA chair at my doorstep the day that he moved and I was beyond shocked/flattered to find these pieces right in front of my place, LOL. If you kiddos don’t believe in Santa Claus, you should believe that there is at least an Apartment Santa out there!

Anyways, let’s revert back to the furniture that I actually bought. Not only did I purchase an 8-cube organizer, 9-cube organizer, and numerous bins/baskets to store beauty products that I receive from brands, but Apartment Santa also dropped off ANOTHER 8-cube organizer. So, if we do the math correctly, I currently own 3 of these multiple-tiered shelves, which pretty much translates to “I’m a huge fan. You should buy these shelves”. Also, I’ll never know where Apartment Santa’s tiered shelf came from (or if he found it from the apartment dumpsters as well), but I can tell you where I got my 8 and 9 cube organizers if you click the links below ;)

Additionally, I purchased complementary bins to match these shelves so I’ll be sure to link those down below as well.

*Note: I have eight of these!

4. Complementary Decorative Pillows, Bedsheets, & Duvet

So, I did not realize how big the decorative pillow industry was until I dipped my toe into home decor. You can literally find (overpriced) decorative pillows at almost any popular store such as Target, IKEA, Overstock, Wayfair, etc. The same goes for matching or complementary pillowcases, bedsheets, and duvets.

However, I do want to share a disclaimer with you guys that you SHOULD plan a bedroom theme before going HAM on buying random ass pillows that you find cute, but may not match at the end. Not only will it save you the stress of returning items that do not match, but it will also make your decor shopping experience a lot more easier!

My top suggestion would be to pin a bunch of bedroom inspiration posts that you LOVE on Pinterest until you find a common theme with each of those pins. As soon as you establish the exact colors, elements, and textures that you need to create a welcoming bed, then start searching for similar pillows online! You can find my current “Warm Bedroom Goals (2020)” Pinterest board linked here for MY current bedroom inspiration.

My very first bedroom theme was completely minimal (think solely white and grey) and as much as I loved how clean it looked, the room colors eventually grew boring and dull to me. The second time I changed up my bedroom, I decided to incorporate dark grey, white, and navy colors to help my bed pop against the eyes.

However, once I move into my new home in June, my goal is to revamp my ENTIRE bedroom into a warm, “burnt orange” theme that mixes burnt orange, cream, white, and little bits of greenery. Personally, I feel that burnt orange is definitely an eccentric color that is both bright and welcoming to the eye.

Thus, I’ve linked all bedding that I currently own (ex: duvets, pillowcases, decorative pillows, bedsheets, pillows, etc.) that I currently own. Also, I will add product links to any items I want to purchase to create my future bedroom goals.
