How I Made $7,000+ On Poshmark

This is my best friend, Marisa. But this can be YOU if you read all of my Poshmark tips, BAHAHA.

This is my best friend, Marisa. But this can be YOU if you read all of my Poshmark tips, BAHAHA.

What if I told you that I made an extra $7,000 from just one mobile app?

If you’re like me, your jaw would drop to the floor at the speed of light. As much as some people choose to hate on social media platforms, little do these same Negative Nancies know that utilizing certain apps in the RIGHT way can actually benefit our lives in more ways than we think. If it weren’t for social media, the person typing this for you wouldn’t be here today - instead, I would be passionless, jobless, and I sure as hell know I wouldn’t be as happy as I am now, doing what I love for a living.

So if you’re here because of my clickbait (yet accurate) title, you’ve come to the right place ;) Today, I wanted to share all of my top Poshmark income-making tips that I’ve learned from trial and error since joining this platform in June 2016.

If you don’t know what Poshmark is, be sure to read my introduction to Poshmark blog post linked here first. So, do you have your pen and paper ready? Yeah? Kay, now let’s get started!

1. Share your entire Poshmark closet to the respective Poshmark Party of the day (if applicable) or to “Your Followers” at least 1 - 3 times per day.

You know that phrase “what goes around, comes around”? Well, it applies to engagement. If you’re the type of person who always asks , “How come I’m not growing"?” or “How come my following has stopped?”, you must first analyze if you’re putting enough energy and time into your actual social media growth, or if you’re just expecting it to come to you suddenly.

Simply put, never expect yourself to grow on any platform unless you put in the actual work. The word “work” translates to “time and energy” so essentially, this means actually staying active and using the platform regularly.

As a (personal) rule of thumb, I aim to share my Poshmark closet at 12:00PM PST, 4:00PM PST, and 7:00PM PST because these are the specific Poshmark Party times. Also, Poshmark Parties summon ALL of the girls to the app so these are definitely times that you definitely want to be on the platform if your schedule allows it. It’s like milkshakes bringing all the boys to the yard. Okay, not really, but you catch my drift. When you share your closet at a Poshmark Party time, you are driving a TON of exposure to each piece that you share to the entire Poshmark community. Essentially, this BOOSTS your chances of selling one (or a few items) from your closet during or after a Poshmark Party!

If I’m unable to be on my phone during a Poshmark Party, I then cut myself some slack and share my entire Poshmark closet to “My Followers” at any time of the day that I’m available. Sharing your Poshmark closet entirely to “My Followers” is still an effective step that you do NOT want to skip out on. Since the Poshmark community is known for being a very engaging and positive crowd, there are bound to be kind-hearted people who like and share your closet for the HELL of it, which drives additional exposure to your closet.

Lastly, I highly suggest NOT sharing your entire Poshmark closet at times that are too close together. In other words, you should avoid sharing your closet at 5:00PM PST if you’ve already shared at 4:00PM PST. Not that there’s anything wrong with this, but you’ll probably get more bang for your buck when it comes to increasing your closet’s exposure if you spread out your sharing times every few hours!

2. Post at least 1 - 10+ new items per week.

The more listings you have on Poshmark, the more easier it is for new users to discover your closet. If you really want to declutter your closet (Marie Kondo would be so proud!) and make money at the same time, I highly suggest uploading 1 - 10 new listings throughout the week.

Although I heard adding 1 - 5 pieces every day is better than spamming your followers with 10 new listings all in one day, do what works BEST for your schedule. I know that life throws us curveballs and we may not always have time to upload new clothes every single day, so be sure to establish a consistent habit that works best for you and STICK to it!

3. Be as detailed and specific as possible in your listings.

Say you’re in college looking to buy a “like new” textbook from a fellow student who is no longer in that Genetics class that you unfortunately enrolled in. Do you want to buy a textbook from somebody who has zero explanation on the book they’re selling, or do you want to purchase from an individual who provided exact details about what they’re selling, why they’re selling it, and how much you’re saving if you buy from them? Exactly. As much as Poshmark makes it easy for us to fill in the blanks when it comes to color, size, quantity, and more, you must summon the salesperson within you if you want to truly land a sale!

Down below, I’ve included a checklist that I always make sure I complete for each and every listing that I upload.

  • Photos: Publish high quality photos with a minimal background preferred. The more photos, the better!

  • Title: Include brand name, product name, and condition of item.

    • For my listings, I use the example formats below. Feel free to use them as well!

    • If the item is new:

      • 🆕 Free People: Pink Bohemian Dress

    • If the item has been worn once: or a few times:

      • [LIKE 🆕] Free People: Pink Bohemian Dress

    • If the item is used:

      • Free People: Pink Bohemian Dress

  • Description Box: Include any important details the buyer should know (ex: I wore this only once for a photoshoot, I wore it a few times but it’s still in great condition, used but still functional, ex.). You can even assist the buyer on how they can STYLE the particular item, persuading them further to buy it!

    • Example: Rock these white distressed denim shirt with an off-the-shoulder top and a pair of sandals for that casual everyday look.

  • Category: Be as specific as possible.

    • Example: Makeup > Lipstick

  • Quantity: Self-explanatory.

  • Size: This is pretty much self-explanatory. However, if an item’s label states Size Large, but fits like a Size Medium - I tell the buyer this in the “size” section AND description box as a PRECAUTION before they buy. I rather be honest and upfront before a customer purchases my listing(s) so that I can have happier customers!

    • Example: Tag states Size Large, but fits like a Size Medium.

    • Example: Size Large, but fits like a Size Medium / Size 5 US.

  • Brand: Self-explanatory. I suggest listing the brand if it is not already included in Poshmark’s automated brand list.

  • Color: Personally, I skip this step unless you have an item that is SPECIFICALLY the same color as listed in Poshmark’s color chart.

    • Example: Red - Mark “Red” in the color list.

    • Example: Light Blue (I do not mark blue; just so the buyer doesn’t expect a blue piece when it’s really light blue)

  • New With Tags:

    • “Yes” if it’s a new item (with or without tags - as you can explain this in the description box as well)

    • “No” if it’s worn at least once or in used condition.

  • Original Price: Self-explanatory.

    • If I don’t remember the original price of the item, I try to go online and create an accurate approximation/average based on what other pieces are priced at.

    • If I truly don’t know how much I bought the item for or how much the item is worth, I mark Original Price as $0.

  • Listing Price: Word on the street has it that you can sell your listings FAST if you price your items anywhere between 50 - 60% off the original price. However, a lot of my clothes are relatively new and trending so I personally choose to discount them 20 - 30% off the original price. This is where your personal preference comes into play! If you want to sell FAST, sell as cheap as possible. If you’re okay hanging on to a few items with a higher pricepoint, then sell your listings at a price that you’re happy with!

  • Availability: For Sale

    • Mark “Not For Sale” if you temporarily don’t want to sell the item right at this moment, but don’t want to delete the listing (perhaps you may want to sell it in the future?).

    • Mark “Reserved” if somebody wants you to reserve the item while they wait for their next paycheck.

4. Add screenshots of product details if they are still available online.

If you are selling a trendy article of clothing or a recently launched product that is still currently sold on online stores, I highly suggest that you take a screenshot of the additional details of the respective product. I’ve included a few details below of what I mean. Not only does this added screenshot help buyers know the fabric and fit of the respective piece, but this screenshot also saves you from answering a bunch of questions about the product in the near future.

Also, I do know that some brands are “strict” on this screenshot policy (ex: Daniel Wellington screenshots will be deleted) but a majority of the time, you can get away with screenshotting a product’s online image and using it as your own for the listing. If you want to play it safe, just capture your own product image or flatlay - it only takes a few seconds!

5. Grow your following through becoming a Poshmark Ambassador and hosting a Poshmark Party.

The best part about Poshmark is the consistent ability to grow your follower count, even when you take a break from being active! Generally speaking, the Poshmark community is wholeheartedly positive and supportive, which is why I recommend this platform to all of my friends.

Now, I’m going to break down the MOST effective way on how you can grow your Poshmark following. It all starts off with becoming a Poshmark Ambassador, which honestly took me longer than it should have because I didn’t try too hard in the beginning to obtain this status, LOL. If I could go back in time, I would have hustled to become a Poshmark Ambassador as fast as possible because there are just SO many perks that come with it.

As soon as I became a Poshmark Ambassador two months ago, my follower count grew exponentially…honestly, I can now say that my following grows effortlessly these days. Now that I’m a Poshmark Ambassador, I gain 100 new followers every 3 days. Before my Poshmark Ambassador days, it would take several MONTHS to gain 100 new followers. Thus, you should take the time to fulfill ALL of the Poshmark Ambassador requirements, which I will copy and paste down below for your reference.

To host a Poshmark Party, I’ve included Poshmark’s own blog linked here that will answer all of your questions. Starring as one of the Poshmark Party hosts is an EPIC opportunity that you do not want to miss out on. Let’s just say that your newsfeed will be SPAMMED 24 hours before you host a Poshmark Party up to the very last minute that your Poshmark Party lasts until - the engagement is CRAZY! If I even left my phone for a few seconds, my Poshmark app would have HUNDREDS of notifications. From gaining a huge following to receiving more likes and comments on your listings, there is only positive things in store for those who sign up to become a Poshmark Party host. Although there is a huge waitlist, it never hurts to try ;)

In all 5 years of my Poshmark life, I believe I’ve hosted at least 5 Poshmark Parties. Nowadays, it’s much harder to become a Poshmark Party host due to popular demand - so if you do apply after reading this blog post, just know that I’m rooting for you!
